MOUNT ROSKILL'S PROGRESS.
SUPPORT FOR A BOROUGH
A letter wa.s received • from the Roskill West Ratepayers' Association by the Mount Roskill Road Board uight stilting that tiie members -were actively engaged' in getting signatures to a petition in favour of transforming the road district into a borough. The chairman of the board, Mr. E. F. Jones, said that hj considered this movement was a step in the right direction. It would improve their >tatus in the community and give them advantages not now enjoyed as a road board. It might be wisa to employ one or two men to assist in obtaining signatures. Mr. G. E. Tans'ey favoured the change, but pointed out that there was nothing definite before the board. Mr. J Warren (clerk), stated that 20 p€r cent of the ratepayers could demand a poll of ratepayers to decide the question. A petition signed by 500 ratepayers would be sufficient for the purpose. The chairman added that the proposal could be put before the ratepayers as a separate issue when a poll was being taken' on lothej* proposal I At the conclusion of the ordinary busi-l ness, the board decided- to take the neces- 1 sary steps immediately to have the dis-1 trict into a, borough.
