MINOR AMENDMENTS.
PUBLIC WORKS ACT. WIDTH OF COUNTRY ROADS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A small amendment to the PublicWorks Act introduced in the House provides that "where an owner sells land not having frontage to an exi?cing thoroughfare he shall provide and dedicate as a public road a strip of land not less than 66ft to give access from some existing street. This sub-section shall not applv, however, with respect to the sale of land to the owner of adjoining land, or where the local authority has satisfied itself that the property is not to be used for a dwellinghouse, and resolves that the sub-section shall not apply. Any local authority other than a borough council may, by resolution, authorise the provision of a road of less than 06ft width, but not less than 40ft. Every resolution must be approved by the Governor-General in Council." The bill also provides new machinery for the stopping of roads by local authorities. Another section states that any land separated from a river, lake or sea shore only by a public reserve shall be deemed to abut on the water.
