Although Sqnadron-Leadcr Kingsford Smith is unable to announce a definite date of the commencement of his flight in the Southern Cross across the Tasman Sea to Christchurch, it is reliably reported that the engineer, Maidruent, has been asked to complete his inspection of the Southern Cross by Friday night In this rase, and weather permitting, the flight will probably begin during the coming week-end. Ideal spring weather is being experienced here at present. BACK AT SYDNEY. Southern Cross Completes Flight From Perth. IDEAL WEATHER MET WITH. SYDNEY, August 28. Tho monoplane Southern Cross was flown from Adelaide to-day to Richmond, 38 miles north-west of Sydney. It Janded there late in the afternoon, thus completing the return flight from Perth. Ideal weather was experienced all the way from Adelaide. SHIP TO SHORE. Success Of Air Plan Recognised By British. SPEEDING UP MAILS. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) LONDON, August 28. The success of the aeroplane auxiliary mail service from the liner He de France has been recognised by the British Post Office authorities. They have consequently accepted a mail for America by that service. This wiil be marked "catapult air mail." Half-a-crown per half ounce will be charged in addition to ordinary postage. BRUSSELS TO CROYDON. MR. LEVINE AND MISS BOLL. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) LONDON, August 28. The two Americans, Mr. Charles Levine and Miss Mabel 8011, flew back to Croydon last evening after a stay of 90 minutes in Brussels. They say the flight was in no way connected with any transatlantic venture.
