"BOBBY" CALVES.
REJECTIONS AT WORKS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) "WHANGAREI, this day. Members of the Whangarei Dairy Company, at their annual meeting today, discussed "bobby" calves. Mr. Tremaine read an extract from * letter he had received from the manager of the Moerewa Freezing Works: "The following will give you an idea of the number of calves passed and rejected from various directions. Received, 3101; passed, 2438; rejected, 657. The calves rejected are f~r the most part rejected solely on account of the lack of any feeding whatever. Some are very young calves; others, but not many, are poor and bruised. Post-mortem examination of the stomach reveals in many cases that although the calf is old enough there is qo trace of food of any description. Th® standard set is not particularly hard, and so long as a calf has had reasonable feeding the percentage of rejected could be very considerable* reduced.
