NAME ALTERED.
PLAY ASSOCIATION. INFLUENCES FOR GOOD. "Community Sunshine Association" is to be the name of the Auckland Play and Recreation Association in the future, according to a statement made by the president of the organisation (Mrs. N. E. Ferner) at its annual meeting last evening. The alteration had been made owing to the largely increased activities of the association, and also because the name was more appropriate. Excellent results had been obtained at the community club at Freeman's Bay, and the boys and girls who patronised it were responding wonderfully to the influences for good. Gratification was felt at obtaining the old Nelson Street school from the Education Department, thanks to arrangements made by Mr. A. H. Court. In about a week's time two rooms would be lighted and a start made with work. Gradually all the building would be brought into use. Mrs. Ferner emphasised the need of furnishings for the school, and spoke of the efforts of the ladies' auxiliary i:; raising £820 during the year. Efforts now had to be made to pay the balance owing on the school.
The meeting expressed appreciation of the gift from the Savings Bank trustees. The financial statement showed there was £758 in the bank, and fittings were valued at £162, £2ti.">o had been promised in donations.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mrs. N. E. Ferner; vice-presidents, Sir Edwin Mitclielson, Sir Frederic Lang, Sir George Fowlds, Sir George Elliot, Mr. John Court and Mr. C. J. Tunks; treasurer. Mr. N. R. W. Thomas; board of directors, Dr. Ludbrook and Messrs. F. Restall, R. Noton, A. Thompson, A. J. Williamson, W. H. Cocker, G. Brownlec and Campbell, and Mesdames Neilson, Taylor, Cooper and Miller.
