A very succecstul social and dance was held last evening in the Druids' llall, in aid of tne Queen Carnival, which has been inaugurated ior the purpose of raising funds for tne bunding of a new Catholic Church at Ohakune. l'ue event was held in support of the Country Queen. There was a very good attendance, and a most enjoyable time was spent. In the euchre tournament Mrs. Nissen won the ladies' prize, and Mr. C. Thomas the gentlemen s. Mr. Head 1 acted as M.v . The Loyal Raetihi i.ouj,e of Oddfellows has received an luvhutum to join with Ohakune Loage in a visit to the Taurnuruuul Louge. An invitation lias also been received trom the llautapu l.ouge. 'iaihape, to enter the Salt* Cup competition. Tne question of creating a ju\et.i,e lotige at Haetihi will come up lor u»s*.ussion at the next lodge meeting. PUKE. A fine entertainment in aid of the library funds was staged on Wednesday night at the Al'bicn Hall by the "Queries," a party of local amateurs. The hall was tilled to the doors. ■ All orchestra, tinder the baton of Mr. X. Rogers, greatly assisted the success of the performance. In :m opening chorus the company, attired as pierrots, introduced themselves. A duet by Miss M. Kerr and Mr. O'Meara, "flood Advice" was heartily applauded. Messrs. Gibbings. O'Meara. Kaife and I'ersey appeared in a skit. "Til! the Cows Congf Home." reference iu the snugs to local celebrities being received with mars of laughter. Mrs. GLbbings. in a monologue. "The Buckboard." gave a very good account of a visit. to an American farm. Mrs. J. Bennett played a violin solo, and was recalled. "A Teashoo Courtship.'' conducted with difficulty by Mr. Gainings and Miss I'. l'almer. with interruptions by Messrs. I'ersey, O'Meara and others, ptoved very amusing. Mr. Dudly Johnson, a humorist of no mean order, gave a hymn of hate directed against severa 1 local people in "The Uolshie." One; of rile best items of the entertainment was a ■ song by Miss Mavis Kerr "Mic!i:"*i'» ! Flute." Then "Four Jolly Suilormen" intro-i duced some fun and a song or two. VI r. j \Y. 15rov.il. a promising lad. recited "The j Jew." and. on recall, illustrated nursery 1 rhymes, A soul' by th" company with a I rousing chorus. "Cigaret t ■ dose the first half of tiie programme. In the <cru:id part Mr. Cibbings -a 11 is "Sergeant of the Line." A duet by Miss K. Cuff and Mr .!. Kalfe. ••House-hunting." with humorous intmdiic-! tion. and a medley of song, was very good, j Mrs. Gibbings followed with a monologue, j "Bride's Visit to [be Butcher's Shop." j Miss Place and Mr. Gibbings appeared in song find dance action. "I'he Grand Hotel." Mr. Brown again delighted the audience in "Willie Dolit'le." a humorous sketch. Mr. j O'Meara gave a good rendering of "The ! Fallen Leaf." The show ended with a I farce, entitled "Tin Lady Barbers." in | which Messrs. Kalfe and Gibbings took the j principal parts. 1
