TE AROHA NOTES.
KING LU FOR SYDNEY,
TO BE RID DENT BY A. TINKER
Trainer'G. A. Reid leaves for Wellington on Mdnday lo be present at the hearing of the appeal case by the New Zealand Conference, over what is known as the White protest. The cas,e is to be heard on Tuesday.
One of the most improved horses at work " here is the Valkyrian—Glacia gelding, Valkon. He lias furnished considerably, and is in splendid heart. The new season, which optus next week, shpuld certainly be a good one for Valkon.
Orchus lias" return to the tracks again. The trip to Trentham, although unsuccessful, seemed to have sharpened him up somewhat, and he may get among the winners before long.
-It is understood that the Paeroa owned mare, Miss Egypt, may be relegated to the stud this year. Her trainer, N. Prester, will then probably have in work Gold Clip, Gold Dart, Flitter and Highflown.
Mr. W. Lockyer, of Hungahunga, has Hungahunga and Golden An?h in nice trim, and they will be among the contestants at the district meetings during the spring. They are being trained privately by the owner. Mr. R. I?. Hines' team have been worked on their owner's private tracks at Te Aroha West. King Lu, Queen Arch, Waltzer and Lady Nestor arc in good heart. King Lu, who is going to Sydney, is to be ridden in his Australian engagements by A. Tinker, who intends taking at least one of his own team over also.
Flying Tresses, in J. H. Wallace's stable, still -carries plenty of condition, and it will be some time yet before she wild register fast work. As a two-year-old, when trained by H. Eva, she showed plenty of speed, and there is no reason why she should not also show staying ability. Mr. R. Whitten's Prairie King, by King Nassau —Arizona Maid, has joined A. Tinker's team at Te Rapa. He is a well-grown colt, and should soon exhibit racing ability. Arizona Maid, by San Fran—Voca, has a rising yearling full brother to Prairie King, while Mr. Whitten's Multini, by Lord Multifid, has a nice colt by imported Lapidary.
Several horses included in the teams of trainers Cox and Reid, are to be nominated for the Marton and Wangauui meetings, and it is quite on the cards that at least two of J. H. Wallace's team will be included in the list. Every entrant from here will be well forward as regards racing condition.
Before leaving for Matamata Trainer C. J. Carmont effected the purchase of Unoco, by Some Boy 11., for a very modest sum. Last year he met with an accident, and although his hind leg is scarred as the result, he has been executing satisfactory work..
Horses trained at Te Aroha accounted for 54 wins in the season just ending. A. E. Cox heads the list with the xespectable total of 15. In the jockeys' list E. A. Keesing has 31 wins to his credit, and K. Gill 14.
In the list of winning owners Mr. R. B. Hines, of Te Aroha West, ranks high with £4202 this season. As he has been a most consistent follower of racing over a lonf* period, his successes have been popular throughout.
It is seldom indeed that the Te Aroha training tracks are not accessible for work, but for the greater part of the week flood waters practically surrounded the course property, and consequently no track gallops were executed. On Thursday morning Valkon, Nancy Lee, Glen Albyn gelding, Raffles, Orchus, Glen Star, Lucy Rose, Marble Arch—Crown Rose gelding, Love Call, Te Koroke, Tea Time and Flying Tresses put in appearance, but nothing faster than jogging work was indulged in at the club's outside paddock.
