AN UNUSUAL CHARGE.
AUi£G£D DEMAND FOR MONET young max remanded. When John George Stewart (20) appeared at the Police Court this morning on a charge of demanding with menaces, the sua of £20 from' Hugh Gilmer, with intent to steal the monTv, Chief Detective Hammond asked for "a further remand until Mar 17. '' K » alleged," said Mr. Hammond, that Stewart and another man fa. manded money from an old man. Since accused has been out on bail he has visited the complainant's house in ParnelL If he is to be allowed bail again I would ask that he should be told he must not go near Gilmer." Accused denied that he visited the house. Mr. Hammond: You were there last night, Mr. Marchant, who appeared for Stewart, explained that with Stewart he went to Mr. Gilmer's house last night for the purpose x\f viewing the premises. Counsel denied that accused spoke to the complainant. The remand was granted and bail was renewed.
