BOWLING.

HILLSBORO' TOURNAMENT. GROCERS ON THE GREEN. The full-rink tournament at Hillsboro', postponed from the previous Wednesday owing to bad weather, came off yesterday under fortunate conditions, and the visitors expressed their surprise and pleasure at finding a green in fiuch beautiful order after the dry summer. In fact some of them were asking the committee to arrange another tournament at an early date, promising full support. Sixteen rinks competed. Section A was won outright by a rink representing the centre executive: Ton kin, Barter, Wright, Pascoe. Section B resulted in a tie, and in the play-ofl Buchanan, Wrightson, Hunt and Hosking (Carlton) defeated Parsons (Ponsonby). The final will be played on the same green next Saturday, commencing at 1.45, and the local holders of the Denison Pins will be ready to meet the Grey Lynn challengers at the same hour. The president of the Grocers' Bowling Association, Mr. A. W. Page, rounded off tbe season by giving a complimentary afternoon yesterday to the competitors who had played for the "K" Cup during the summer. At the outset he explained that on this xrccasion the wholesale were not going to play against the retail, as each rink had been made up with players from both sides. The following were the results: — L. Francis, T. W. Sawyers, J. Schischka, B. A. Kayes 25, v. A. Nixon, H. W. Diggens, J. C. Entrican, J. Wright 21; W. Presto®, J. Daniels, I. Clarke, T. C. Schnackenberg 20, v. J. W. Bayley, J. H. Jones, E. Knight, T. Dickson 20; F. Gregson, F. Boyce, J. E. Comes, E. S. Andrew 25, v. H. L. Joll, A. Wright, D. Grattan, A. W. Page 15; J. N. Lewis, J. Preston, A. H. Roylance, T. E. Price 2<J, v. G. Heald, R. Harrison, S. E. MeGill, T. H. Stevens 21. The competitors were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. Page, when Mr. Page drew attention to the massive "K" Cup which was on exhibition, and which the retail had been fortunate enough to win this year. He did not wish to keep it himself for the whole twelve months, but would be glad to send it to any member of the trade who wished to display it for a few weeks. Mr. J. C. Entrican, representing the wholesale, proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Page and their daughter for entertaining them at such a sumptuous afternoon tea, for it was not the first time that their host and hostess had placed all the company under a deep obligation. He could assure them that their hospitality was cordially fipnreciated. Mr. T. E. Price, for the retail, heartily endorsed these remarks, adding that vear after year the competitors in these very eniovable games were becoming more and more indebted to their eenerous for his lavish hosnHality and bis keen interest in the meetings on the green. The motion was carried with mnginO honours, to which Mr. Pasre responded by savinsr that he looked forward to seeing all his old friends at mother series of games next year.
