A BEAUTIFUL LANGUAGE,

ORGANISER ON WORLD TOUR.

With the avowed object of collecting material for liis profession, and also to propagate Esperanto as the universal language, Edmund Zsclieile, a German actor and poet, is visiting Auckland, in the course of making a circuit of the globe. Travelling largely on foot and carrying with him but bare essentials, Mr. Zschcile estimates that his tour will last about seven years. He started, from Leipzig on August 1, 1923, and he has now covered the greater part of his journey.

During his peregrinations the traveller has passed through Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Yugoslavia, Hungaria, Rumania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Sudan, Arabia, Palestine, Syria, Japan, China, Philippine Islands, Sumatra, Strait Settlements, India, and Australia.

"Esperanto is not only a theory but a living language, easy to learn, beautiful in tone, and neutral in basis." said Mr. Zscheile to an interviewer. Testifying to the growing popularity of the universal language, the visitor carrios with him books of autographs, which contain the signatures of well-known personalities the world over, more particularly of leaders and prominent figures in the East and Far East. The signature of Dr. Rabindranath Tagoro, the Indian poet, is subscribed to the following quotation:— "The samp sun is born in new lands In a flng of countless dawns." Other notabilities in the East that Mr. Zscheile has seen and whose autographs he Obtained are General Wu Pei Fu, the Chinese leader, 'Dr. Sun Yat Sen's son, who is another great leader in China, and Karmachand Ghandi, the famous Indian leader and advocate for self-government in India.

Mr. Zscheile had a companion when he started on his tour, Willhelm Pelz. who after travelling three and a-half years found a partner for life in a Russian girl in Manchuria, whom he married. He is now settled down as a miller.
