FIRE BRIGADE SPORTS.

DEMONSTRATION AT PAPAKURA.

A Are brigade demonstration was held at Papakura on Saturday. A fair number of interested spectators watched the local and visiting firemen m competition, this being the first demonstration of the kind held In l'apakura. The local brigade has been in existence only a little oTer three years, and residents were very keen to see how their boys would shape in comparison with those of brigades of long-standing. They were not disappointed, as the "locals" put up a good fight against the more-experienced visitors.

The Gilbert Memorial, for one man, drew an entry of 19, and, after a very keen competition, Fireman Stembridge, of Pukekohe, was returned the winner of the visiting section, with Foreman Walker the winner of the local. The visitor's time was i.B, with Is penalty, making his time 1.9. Foreman. Walker took 1.11, with 4a penalty, making his time 1.15.

In the two-men event, eight team* faced the starter, and the winner# again came from I'ukekohe, in Firemen Adams and Stembridge, their time being S7s, with 2spenalty, making their total 395. The winners of the local section were Foreman Walker and Fireman Richardson (since elected captain), their time being 425, with no penalties. The following brigades were represented: Onehunga (5), Xakapuna (4), Pukekohe (2), lamaki (2), Devonport (1), and Papakura (5) teams.

In the evening the local brigade held their annual smoke concert, at which the honours and trophies won were presented. Mt. H. k. McEntee (chairman of the management committee) presided, being supported by Mr. E. D. McLcnnan, M.P., ex-Captain VVoodliouse, Mr. J. McCali (chairman of the Town Board), Rev. W. C. Wood, Supt. Gilbert, V.P.U.F.B.A. (Onehunga) Sec. usoorne (Onehunga), treasurer U.F.B A and Supt.
