BURGLARS AT WHAKATANE
SOME BOOTY DROPPED ON ROAD
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, this day. Burglars broke into the Price Merchandise Compnny's premises, blew open the safe and secured cash and cheques worth about £200.
The sound of the explosion which broke the safe was deadened by sacks of flour and sugar.
An tit tempt was also made on the snfe of Mr. J. Franklin's drapery emporium, but without success.
The burglars were apparently on foot, for this morning some £18 in cash and cheques, the latter being from Price's ransacked safe, were found on the footpath in Louvain Street, over a quarter of a mile from the shops. Jt is believed that th 9 burglars worked late last night or early this morning.
