i"y Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WAIHI, this day.
The Waihi Borough Council at its meeting last evening debated at length the recommendation of the Finance Committee that the outdoor staff be reduced by five, following the report and recommendations by the borough treasurer relative to the financial position. An amendment that the services of the consulting engineer, traffic inspector, beach caretaker and three members of the outdoor staff be dispensed with was rejected by nine votes to two. A further amendment, that the whole outdoor staff work one day less per week was carried.
It was resolved that the proprietors of local picture theatres be informed that as conditions of their licenses relative to payment to the Fire Brigade for attendances had not been complied with the licenses would be cancelled forthwith.
It was resolved that a lease of the municipal saleyards be offered the Waihi Farmers' Association at £10 per annum.
