CEMENT WORKER DROWNED.

FELL WHILE LOADING BOAT.

WHANGAREI, this day.

A worker at the Portland cement works, named Giles, was drowned yesterday afternoon. Ho was assisting in loading a boat at the wharf, but fell into the water, and was not seen again.

The police received the news at ejght o'clock last evening, and Constables Clemmence and Beasley, of Whangarei, started a search with lights and grappling irons. They resumed the work to-day, but a f . noon had not succeeded in finding the body.

It is not known whether Giles had relatives in the Dominion.
