AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS.
MISS D. MILLER EASILY BEATEN.
Dull tennis was seen to-day the second day of the Auckland championships, which are at present being played at the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's courts at Stanley Street. There was only a handful of people watching the play. Now and again the match between J. T. Laurenson and E. W. Griffiths produced some bright tennis, but the Waikato man ran out an easy winner in two straight sets. Miss D. Miller went down badly to Miss Ramsay. Miss Miller could not get one game in two sets. She made many mistakes, and Miss Ram6ay won most of her points from her opponent's faults. Results:— Men's Singles (A Grade). Second Round.—A. H. S. Lamb beat V. R, Johns, 6—3, 2 —6, 6—3; L. G. Knott beat Morrisen; N. G. Sturt beat Cleghorn, 6—o, 5—4; J. T. Laurenson beat £> W. Griffiths, 6—3, ft—3; Lampe beat Watkms, 6 1, B—Gjß—Gj Bnnsden beat Nicholson, 6—l, 7—5. Ladies' Singles. Second Round.—Miss Ramsay beat Miss Whitelaw, 6—4, 7—5; Miss Nicholls beat Miss McPherson, 3—6, 6—3, 7 —5. Third Round.—Miss Ramsay beat Miss D. Miller, 6 0, 6 1 0. Mixed Doubles. First Round.—Johns and Miss McPherson beat F. Sturt and Miss Napier, 6—l, 9—7.
CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Canterbury lawn tennis championships were continued to-day in fine weather. Results:— f Men's Singles.—Third round: Seay beat Sheppard, 6—3, 6—B; Patterson beat Walker, 6—4, 8-—6; Glanville beat Robinson, 6—l, 6—2; Angas beat A. B. Loughnan, 6—3, 6—3.
