SAMOAN DEPORTATIONS.

I note Messrs. Hall Skelton and E. Stevenson have been holding a meeting of protest against the action of the Government in deporting the Hon. Mr. Nelson and others from Samoa, and however belated, they are certainly entitled to praise for their views. I trust, however, that they are not reserving their strictures for the Prime Minister and the Reform party, but are pointing out that this is another of those innumerable occasions on which the reactionaries received the complete support of the Liberal party. The volume of Liberal protest was not vocal in Parliament, or outside of Parliament, apart from one or two Liberal papers, chief among which was the "Auckland Star." The "Christchurch Press" was a notable exception among Tory papers. JOHN A. LEE.
