SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A delightful evening was spent last Saturday at "Atherstone." Waifeino, the esidence of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Alexander, to celebrate their 6ilver wedding. The hostess wore a charming dress of shellpink broche, beaded in crystal and silver, with drapings of silver laee, embroidered in pale blue. Her sister, Mrs. Len Clark, Te Aroha, was dressed in vieux rose silk crepe do chine and gold lace. During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Clark, Mrs Atkinson, Mr. Revell (Tc Aroha), Mr. Johnson, Mr. Griffin and Mr. McSweeney. Miss Lena Clark, Te Aroha, dressed in character, danced a Hawaiian love dance, Highland fling and sword dance. The supper room and tables were artistically decorated with flame gladioli, pale mauve ihlathiuin and maiden hair ferns. There were about fifty guests present, some having travelled a very long distance for the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander were the recipients of many handsome presents.
A delightful after-wedding dance was given on Wednesday night bv Mrs. Russell, who entertained many pretty and daintily dressed Auckland girls. The ballroom was decoratcd profusely with pink and mauve, and the supper-room was done in white, silver and blue. A good orchestra gave all the latest music. The large wedding bell adorned the middle of the supper table. Among those dancing were the hostess in embossed velvet chiffon in russet tones, Mrs. S. A. Morton, gold embroidered tulle; Mrs. Tuke, rose-coloured figured chiffon; Mrs. Brian Stevenson, gold lace gown; Mrs. Lester Roberts, blue and gold brocade; Miss Russell, in her bridesmaid's gown of powder blue georgette and silver lace; Miss Bervl Houghton, blatk tulle with velvet frills; Miss Jean LaWford, shell pink georgette with shaded fringe; Miss Cassie Lintott x?™*, 1 , 0 . sh J aded georgette; Miss Miriam Magill, jade green georgette; Miss Bona Rainger, blue georgette band shot taffeta; Miss Madeleine Gorton, sea green .brocade and gold, Miss Nixon (Eng. [land) hydrangea blue corded silk, with net frills; Miss F, Cox, gold lame with
iridescent sequin frill*; Miss Marjorie Stewart, apple green taffeta with ecru lace; M»b Selby Tupper, tea green tulle embossed in silver; Miss Nancy Brett, rose taffeta; Miss Leslie Waller, amethyst taffeta; Miss May Maddox, blue taffeta; Miss Sybil Hay, petunia shaded georgette; Miss Marjorie Hay, flame georgette; Miss Sybil Martin, roee sprigged taffeta; Miss Meg Kissllng, gold satin and lace; Miss Edgerton, apple green taffeta and lace; Miss Honey Jackson rose georgette with silver motifs; Miss Audrey Bayly, beaded blue georgette with band of silver and roee on hem; Miss Bassett (Sydney), black taffeta worked in gold; Miss Micky Ferguson, petunia georgette; Miaa Ellis Alison, white georgette worked in silver.
