MARRIED MAN'S SUICIDE.
SUFFERING FROM ILLNESS.
The body of Leslie Garland Pike, married, an insurance agent, Mas found shortly belore lour o'clock yesterday afternoon with the liead in a gas oven and the gas full on in a room in his flat at Xo. 9, Symonds Street. An inquest was held this morning before the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when a verdict of suicide while in a state of mental depression was returned. Mrs. Pike said that deceased had been ill for the past twelve months and had only a week ago left the sanatorium at Rotorua. Deceased had often said that he wished he could die. Witness left him at home at one o'clock yesterday afternoon and on returning at 3.50 found the door locked. As there was a smell of gas she became alarmed and went to a neighbour for help.
All land and air records for continuous running have been broken by an Ariel motor cycle and side-car. Without the engine being stopped, the machine ran for 5004 miles on a course at Banbury. On its run the machine averaged nearly 20 miles an hour. The engine revolved 40,000,000 times, with 20,000,000 explosions, and the pistou travelled 4000 miles.
