FORGETFUL SHOPKEEPERS.

SCALES NOT VERIFIED.

NUMEROUS EXCUSES ADVANCED.

A number of shopkeepers who had failed to have their weighing machines and scales used in trade verified were prosecuted at the Police Court this morning by the inspector of weights and measures.

Excuses were offered in each case, the favourite explanation being that their notice received from the inspector had been mislaid, and that they had failed to send in their scales for verification. They were convicted and ordered to pay costs.
