BELATED EFFORT.

WELSH MATCH DRAWN

N.Z. Cricketers Score Well In

Second Knock.

DEMPSTER GETS GOING.

(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright)

(Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, September 6. On the third day of the cricket match, Wales v. New Zealand, the Welsh team having three wickets down for 83 in their second innings and a lead of 52 runs on the first, resumed in an excellent position. They found runs come steadily, though there was not outstanding batting performance.

At 183 runs for nine wickets they declared, leaving the New Zealanders a hundred and eighty minutes to get 234 runs to win.

The opening batsmen, Dempster and Mills, got really busy and found that forcing tactics were far more successful than the cautious batting tactics of the previous day had been. They added 79 runs in 70 minutes without loss.

After the tea adjournment it soon became evident that the task of getting a : J successful finish against the very accurate bowling was a forlorn hope. All chance disappeared with Dempster's dismissal, so a draw was declared soon after 6 -p.m. Details of the scores are:— WALES. First Innings ■ jg2 Second Innings.
