NEW ZEALAND QUALITY.

BUTTER KEEPS WELL.

The keeping quality of North Otago butter has been fully illustrated by the Oamaru factory of the Waitaki Dairy Company (says the Otago "Daily Times"). The butter that took the championship at the Auckland Winter Show was churned on March 12. It was taken from the cool store at Auckland on July 19, and has not been in the cooling chamber since. It was returned to Oamaru yesterday and was found to be in excellent order. Butter in pats which was made at the same time and underwent the same conditions has been returned without showing the slightest deterioration in quality. This is considered to be convincing evidence that butter in pats could be advantageously shipped to England. A still more notable instance of the keeping qualities of New Zealand butter is supplied by the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. The Port Albany, which was in Auckland recently took .on supplies of Anchor butter on March 13 last, just prior to sailing for London, where she arrived on May 10. She departed thence on the 28th instant for Tampico, in Mexico. From this point she left again for New York, and sailed from there for Auckland, via Panama, on July 13, arriving here on August 17. The butter which was left on hand when the ship arrived in Auckland was examined by experts and found to be in excellent condition.
