NEWS FROM SAMOA.

HOSPITAL FACILITIES. (From Oar Own Correspondent.) APIA, August 26. Critics of the hospital service in Western Samoa, says the "Samoa Times," [have alleged that the bulk of the Samoans do not share in the benefits. The statement is misleading, though the population in some secluded parts does not have the facilities for treatment which are the lot of the people who live in more closely settled districts. The fact that there is treatment available in other places than Apia, Aleipata and Tutsivi is shown in the report of his Excellency the Administrator, forwarded to the League of Nations this year.

i INSPECTION OF SCHOOLS. Mr. Caughley, formerly Director of Education for New Zealand, has been in Samoa for the past few weeks, daring which time he has made inspection of Government schools in Upolu, Manono and Savaii, Despite the present unrest among the Samoans and some exaggerated printed statements regarding a native boycott of Government schools at Vaipouli and other parts of Savaii, he found conditions satisfactory in all the schools inspected, Vaipouli included. Accompanied by Mrs. Caughley he leaves by to-morrow'a steamer for Fiji, where he will conduct a further inspection of schools. Before leaving Apia he was entertained at a dinner at the Casina by the local school teachers. ■ S: RUGBY SKLKCTOm. The men who choose our representative teams have seldom an easy task.
