SUDDEN LEAP FORWARD.

CAUSE OF THE CRASH.

Although the driver of the ear which era sited through, the Tailing at the Whan bridge last eraring was a man with 25 jeers' experience, he met with the misfortune owing to the nature of the bridge construction. Being on the way from Henderson to Auckland, he drove on the left hand side of the bridge so that his front wheel was just dear of the guard beam which separates the footway from the traffic way. Hia left band rear wheel caught tie guard beam and continued along en the footpath side for a distance of abotrt 18 feet. He could feel the obstruction, and made effort* to dear it. This he succeeded in doing, bat the car gave a leap forward as it got free and collided with, the railing on the up-etream ride of the structure. The car broke through and 'dived into the stream.

To-day the car was dragged down the stream to the punt landing below the bridge, where it was found not to be seriously damaged. Mr. A. Sinclair, secretary of the Checker Taxi Cab Company, eaid that Mr. Harry Deverell eenr., driver of the taxi, was one of the oldest drivers in the eervke, and bad been with them since the eompany started operations. This was the first accident that lie bad met with. Hβ was formerly well known as a driver in the Waihi district.
