AN ARTISTS SUCCESS.

EXHIBITION lIT SYDNEY. MR. ROBERT JOHXSOX. The remarkable success of an Auckland artist in Sydney waa told by a paasenger by tbo Uttmaroa from Sydney this morning. The artUt is Mr. Robert Johnson, who was born in Auckland and received his art training at the Elam School of Art. He spent three and a half years away on active service daring the war and seven years ago settled in Sydney.

As his energies have been mainly confined to commercial art, he had some difficulty in getting away from Sydncv, but this year he was able to paint in the bash for three weeks at a time. Mr. Johnson held a one man exhibition at the Grosvenor Galleries, which is said to have been the most •oeeeasful y«t held in Sydney. Oat of £800 worth of pictures exhibited £730 were sold within 36 hoars. Lady Stonehaven purchased one of the artist's best work*. "From Castle Hill," and three landscapes were bought by Mr. Howard Hinton. Other connoisseurs were early at the gallery and teemed ptetaret. One waa bought by the National Art Gallery and three by the Federal Capital Commission.
