TOWN BOARD MEETING

The Manuretra Totm Board held it* fortnightly meeting last evening the chairman (Mr. A. C. A. Sexton) presiding Mr. W. T. Cox was the only memfcer absent.

Storm Water-Mr. J. p. Kennedy! wrote explaining that a concrete crossing in front of his Mnssey R oa d entrance would be useless till provision had been made to deal with storm water in this particular locality. The matter was referred to the foreman (Mr. R. Forbes) and the Northern Works Committee for investigation.

Traffic Control.—A report was presented by the board's traffic inspector (Mr Fletcher), in which it was suggested that silenj; policemen be installed at the junctions of Hill Road-Great South Road, and Station Road-Great South Road. This matter was deferred for further consideration.

Drainage.—The Railway Department advised that in regard to the drainage of the swamp on the northern side of the station, it proposed to replace the present 2ft culvert with 3ft pipes. It was dcciMrxi to forward the board's share of the cost viz.. £25.

Great South Road Beautih>if ion —The Auckland Automobile Association forwarded a lengthy report coveting suggested improvements in ihis direction. Metal Dump.- The Railway Department advised ils willinirnnw to lease purpose an area of Reserve extending from the railway bridge and bounded by Lup« tons' Road and Sclwyn Avenue, the term to be seven years and the rental £5 per annum. The arrangement wan confirmed. Takanini Cemetery aod Dump. The clerk reported that the total payable to the owner (Mr. Biernacki) was £899 9/. and that incidental expenses totalled £78*. Mr. Fawcett complained at the time spent in clearing the property, being the equivalent of one man taking 23 days to clear 10 acres. The chairman pointed out that the work had been too far away for the foreman's supervision. Russell Mr. Fawcett'* suggestion it was decided to put a coating of metal dust on the formed footpath in Kusscll Road, between Luptons and Wevinouth Roads.

Tree Planting.—On Mr. G. A. Osbornc"* suggestion it was deeided to plant trees in Maracy Road between Station aDd White s Roade.
