WHIPPINGS PROPOSED.

CHILD WELFABE BIIX. STRONG PROTEST MADE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. A combined meeting of tho Labour party members in Wellington at a meeting last week considered certain aspects of the Child Welfare Amendment Bill, introduced this session by the Hon. R. A. Wright, Minister of Education, and unanimously passed the following resolution: "That this meeting strongly protests against clause 22 of the Child Welfare Amendment Bill at present before Parliament, and urgently requests that it be withdrawn. This meeting is convinced that the effect of introducing ■whipping of boy a into tho work of the Children's Court will have a disastrous effect on the children, who may be subjected to the punishment and its gross indignity, and will retard and nullify rather than assist the beneficial preventive work for which the Children's Courts were established."
