SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
The Grey Lynn Labour party held another of their bi-weekly dances at the O'Xeill Street Hall, Ponsonby. on Saturday evening. The hall was elaborately decorated, and excellent music was provided by I'altridge's orchestra. During the (.veiling the niufk , was stopped by tlie announcement of the death of a late member of the party, Mrs. Thomas. A one minute silence was paid as a mark of ri':-peet. The programme was then enrried on, and during the evening the additional pri/es for the best-dressed couple at the fancy dress dance of July .■in were pri'fPnted to Miss Barry (harem lady) unci Mr. Bickei>tatf (nocturne jiii-rroTt!. the prizes being a manicure M-t and a. wallet.
There was an exceptionally large gathering at the Philistines Cinb on Saturday night. Mrs. Bird was in the chair. An excellent programme was provided. It consisted of a charming .-ong by Mrs. Harold Simpson and a duet from the '"Jondoliers, in costume, by Mr-. Simpson and Mr. Fryer Raisher. Mi»» Linda Murphy gave a number of popular .-ketches. Sengs were rendered by Mr. Allen and Mr. Ackrigg and Mr. Tollerton gave a recitation. A smart little play entitled "Innocent and Annabelle" was presented with much success by Mis- Vera Ziman, Mrs. Verran and .Mis, Maida Hooker and Mr. .Tack Gordon. An enjoyable supper was provided and dancing continued till a late hour.
Mrs. A. W. Perkins gave two very enjoyable bridge parties on Thursday afternoon and evening at her home, "Penmorfa,' , Garden Road, Kemuera. The f-pacione rooms were charmingly arranged, with huge bowls of iris and Iceland poppies. Among the guests were: Mrs. .1. Wright, Mrs. J. Perkins, Lady Hnolair Lockbart, Mrs. H. An enjoyable surprise dance was held at ' ; Rocklands," Mrs. MacCorniiek's residence. Mountain Road, on Saturday cveniii!?, when everyone spent a very hujipy time. The monthly meeting of the Northumberland and Durham Association was held on Saturday evening, August 6, at the Cabin Tea Rooms, Symonds Street. A lareo number of members and friends were present. After the business of the association had been dealt with, the meeting was given over to song, music, and dances. Mr. Colquhoun gave some North Country songs and poetry, and Mr. Wilkin rendered the musical paniments.
