PUKEMIRO MINE DISPUTE. | I : MEN RESUME WORK. I SLATER TO GO WITH MINER. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HUNTLY, this day. \ j As forecasted, a settlement was I reached in connection with the Puke- I j miro coal mine, dispute on Saturday. ; |as the result of the miners' and owners' representatives meeting here in confer- : ence. The deliberations were protracted, and those who participated in i j them were Messrs. T. O. Bishop, secre- : ti.ry of the Coal Owners' Association, i Wellington; A. Watson, Taupiri; A. Burt, V. J. Walker, and A. Robinson, , Pukemiro; Bell, Waipa; and T. Hall and Wood. ij The matter in dispute was that Messrs. Slater and Branaghan had been . denied the right to go on the coal—a , privilege wMicli the miner.* contended , wan due to them —and preference in this I respect had been given to two other I 1 men. The terms of the settlement are that Mr. Slater be employed for the remainder of the present quarter with x a. miner whose mate is absent on sick leave. Mr. Branaghan, on the other ! hand—the man whom the company was [prepared to place on the coal all along I —is to be employed with another miner ;for the balance of the quarter and for itlio next succeeding quarter. Mr. 'J Slater is to find a working mate, and (] ballot for a place at the next cavil. y which falls due in a fortnight. '! Prior to the stxike Messrs. Branaghan 'and Slater were employed as truckers "at 17/ a day, and now that they are ': to be given a turn on the coal, they ', have a enance of earning 2S/ a day. i the minimum amount earned by men I working on -contract. I The secretary of the Pukenliro Miners' Union (Mr. A.
