NEW RAILWAY YARDS.
DEVELOPMENT OF SCHEME. « SECOND SECTION TO COMMENCE IMMEDIATELY. Such excellent progress has been made with the construction of Auckland's new railway yard and the remodelling of the existing one that the second stage of the permanent scheme is to be commenced immediately with the laying of the goods departure and arrival and inward marshalling sidfngs. The undertaking is of considerable proportions, and Will necessitate the laying of 192 chains of track, or 2i miles of plate-laying. There are 28 sets of points and crossings to be put in under the scheme, in addition to six special crossings—four single slips and two "three throws." The surface of the proposed new yard is to be levelled off, and this work will entail the removal of 8000 yds of earthwork. This portion of the undertaking is scheduled for completion by the end of September. Improved weighing facilities are to be put in the new yard, as it is proposed to instal a 25-ton weighbridge. When the work is completed the way will be cleared for the building of a new inwards good shed and the removal of the existing one.
