HOCKEY TOURNAMENT.
COUNTRY WEEK. MEETINGS OF MANAGERS. TOWN v. COUNTRY ON* SATURDAY. The hockey touranments in connection with country week were commenced at the Remuera Recreation grounds thif afternoon, when the first rounds of th« White Horse Cup competition and th| Ladies' Provincial Cup were decided. The managers of the White Hors# teams met this morning, Mr. L. H. Norton presiding. Two new sub-associa< tions were admitted, Whakatane and King Country. Whakatane's colourt were registered ts amber jersey and black shorts, and King Country as maroon jersey and black shorts. A motion to change the date of the tournament to the second week in July was lost. It was decided to play a town and country match next Saturday, and also an A and B trial. A meeting of managers of the ladies* teams was presided over by Mrs. P. I Dawson. Two new sub-associations, Wliakatane and Hauraki Plains were i welcomed. It was decided that in order |to finish the tournament by Saturday, I matches be played on Tuesday and FriI day mornings. Several delegates exI pressed the opinion that it was too j much to ask jrirls to play nine games in ! five and a-half days, and that the com- ! petition should he divided into threo sections. After discussion it was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the Auckland Association. It was recommended that Country Week be held in either the second or third week ; n the month. To-morrow evening there will be an ] informal evening for members of the ' ladies' teams in St. Matthew's Hal!. On Wednesday the combined hockey dance will be held in the Druid's Hall. North Street, and there will be a smoke concert for the men on Thursday. ■
