SOCIETY FARMYARD.

Strange Costumes At Ducal Ball. DONKEYS AND SHEEP. LONDON, June 26. The Duchess of Sutherland, who has taken the initiative in a campaign against '"crashers"—persons who make their way into balls and receptions without receiving invitations —gave a costume ball at Hampden House last night. The Duchess of Westminster brought ;i party, of which the women were dressed as babies, and the men, as nursemaids, pushed them in ancient perambulators. Subsequently the men and women changed costumes and re-entered the ballroom as cocks and hens. The latter laid eggs on the ballroom floor. One famous society hostess, Mrs. Dudley Ward, appeared as a donkey, and the Duke of Sutherland as a sheep.
