CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday, i At the sccond Test match between , the Canadian and New Zealand Soccer rep. teams played this afternoon the attendance at the commencement of the • game waa about 4000. Canada were the first to be dangerous, > Davidson testing McDougall with a high • shot which was cleared for & corner. A ' moment later another shot from Darid--1 son struck the upright. New Zealand ' attacked and BaTk had an unsuccessful 1 attempt at goal. Another Canadian attack looked dangerous, until McGirr cleared with a good kick. The Canadians continued to press hard, and, following tight plav in the New Zealand ! goal mouth, Archibald netted at short - range. Canada I, New Zealand 0. s Difficulty in controlling the greasy ball I was responsible for spoiling many efforts. A free kick for New Zealand | looked dangerous, but Tait in goal t cleared, conceding a corner, which was I abortive. A pretty piecc of work by J the Canadian men was frustrated by » McGirr. Tho well-varied passing tactics i of the visitors caused the home side | considerable anxiety. A New Zealand right flank movement looked dangerous, but Newman's shot went astray. Newman, at inside right for New Zealand, caught the eye. A slight injury to Stcere (N.Z. centre-half) caused a brief J stoppage of the game. Tho New Zealand defence [ to goo' advantage under pressure. \ and McDougall, in goal, earned applause for two fine saves. Turner receiving at short range, tested McDougall with a fast one., but tho goalie was 6afe. The New Zealand fullbacks, Anderson and McGirr were good. Halftime came with the score: i Canada 1 New Zealand 0 On tho resumption Canada attacked, and a free kick threatened danger. McGirr cleared, and New Zealand took a hand through a left (lank movement, which looked promising, but the | finishing effort was weak. Canada set i up another attack, but great work by ! McGirr kept them out. At lost New Zealand were away, and Balk put across • a good centre. In the ensuing scramble Newman put tho ball through. Canada | 1, New Zealand 1. Innes left the field with a minor injury, but resumed play a minute later. 1 A miss-kick by Edmunds almost let the | blacks through. From tho throw-in Canada got possession, and after some tense moments in tho New Zealand goalmouth, Turner notched the visitors' i second goal with a beautiful header. ; Canada 2, New Zealand 1. j Vet another injury, this time to Archi--1 bald, caused a halt, but the player was able to resume, although he was in some ; distress.
