HOUSE AT WAIHI BURNED.

' i WAIHI, this day. j house in Rycroft Street, in-theeait end of Waihi, owned by Mrs. William .Dunlop, was totally destroyed by, fire about 11 .30 p.m. yesterday. The alarm was given by Mr. William Lpe, who .lives next door. The fire, which evidently had been burning inside for some time, suddenly burst forth, completely , enveloping the building, and, aided by a high, wind, it almost reached Mr. Lee's residence, where a garden hose had been brought into play. -The brigade, though they arrived promptly, had to run out over 1000 feet of hose to' reach the nearest fire-plug. For some time anxiety was felt for the safety ;of William Dunlop, aged 17, who occupied the house, but it was ascertained .that he was staying the night with his married sister. A; : four-rOomed cottage in Huntly owned by Mr. «T. B. Harris, and occupied by Mr. H. McNally, was destroyed by fire at 2.30 this afternoon.
