YOUNG MAN'S OFFENCES.
YEAR'S REFORMATIVE TREATMENT.
George Neville Carlson, aged 20 (Mr. Singer), appeared in the Police Court this morning before Mr. W. R. McKeaty S.M., to answer eleven cliarges of ob«. taining suit cases under false pretences from AY. S. Langdale and Company, Limited, and from Frank Wiseman. Accused falsely represented that he was employed by the New Zealand First Aid Supply. Carlson was further charged with obtaining goods and money by means of a valueless cheque. Chief Detective Cummings stated that accused had never been before the court before for dishonesty, and that he was addicted to drink.
Mr. Singer said Carlson had on 0110 occasion voluntarily committed himself to Rotoroa Island. Ac the time of the offences, all of which occurred within a few, days, accused was suffering from domestic and financial worries, and took to drink and drugs. Counsel suggested a term of reformative treatment. It was probable that restitution could bo made. Accused was on one charge convicted and ordered to bo retained for reformative treatment for 12 months. On tho other charges he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within two years. He was also ordered to make restitution to the amount of £20 14/-I 4 /-
