BIBLE IN SCHOOLS LEAGUE.
We have received the following letter from Canon Pcrcival James, chairman of the Auckland executive of the Bible-in-Schools League:— The. Auckland city and suburbs have been divided into XI districts for the formation of branches of the Bibie-in-Schools League, and in nearly all of these branches great interest, lias been shown and the work is progressing well, as il is also in the country districts. The account given in yesterday's Auckland "Star" of the com mitten meeting of one of these branches, Xo. 12, which includes some of the lending churches in Auckland, is likely to give a wrong impression. (I) This branch was almost the last formed. The preliminary meeting was held just over a week ago on June 1!). It is not surprising that the committee has not been able to achieve much yet. (2) The. methods of work which have been so successful in suburban and country branches are doubtless inapplicable. to this area, which contains congregations drawn from all over the city and suburbs, and not only from the immediate vicinity. (:') It is most unfair to speak of the apathy of the clergymen ill ihe area, who include the Revs. Joseph W. Kemp, Lionel B. Fletcher, and Leonard B. Dal by, who have all expressed the warmest sympathy with tlio movement. The public will soon discover the attitude of these gentlemen and their zeal for the cause. Your account states that the meeting was in connection with the petition to be presented to Parliament next mcntli. There is 110 such petition; it. has never been anticipated. Vou also state that the sum of £200 had been spent, in circularising parents.j Xot, a single parent lias been circularised, nor a penny spent, in this way, through the whole of the Auckland province.
