THREE KINGS CAPTURE.

CONNELLY IN COURT

PLEA OF NOT GUILTY.

COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.

On the night of June '2:1. Mr. Hull Kin lock captured an intruder in his house at Three Kings and handed him over to the police. In the Police Court this morning before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., Norman Selwin Connelly, aged •'iii (Mr. Dickson), was charged with breaking and entering and with stealing two coats and a horse rug of a total value of £1 17/. Sub-Inspector Lewin prosecuted.

Hull Kinloek retold the story of the capture. Witness knew Connelly, but did not recognise him until he was t:':ed up. Accused then had on one of witness' coats. The horse rug and the other coat were on the kitchen lloor.

Under cross-examination, witness admitted that Connelly's sister was married to his brother, also that accused and his people had at one time lived near wit uess. Mr. Dickson: Is it not possible that the coats and the rug were put there for Connelly to lay his head on?— No. Witness further stated that he had found a "possie" in the stable where he thought accused had slept the night before.

Mr. Dickson: Did you know that Connelly was as deaf as a door post?—No, only hard of hearing. It's an old dodge of his.

The constable who arrested accused stated that at the time Connelly had informed him that he was cold and hungry, and had entered the house to get something to eat.

Accused, who pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
