EPIC GAME AT CARLAW PARK.

RICHMOND'S GALLANT FIGHT

The Rugby League senior competition games were continued on Saturday in bright weather, the attendance at Carlaw Park being in the vicinity of 5000. Poneonby defeated Richmond by the narrow margin of two point*, after the best game seen in Auckland this season. City had a fairly easy win from Graf ton Athletic, while at Devonport the home team were too strong for Newton.

NEWTON OVERWHELMED.

It was "charge" day. and the match wai played mi the Devonport Domain before an attendance of about 1000. Itevonport were early Into their stride, and for several minutes had Newton defending. Langley ran on a diagonal line, connected with Peckham, and the ball worked across to the ring wing, where Grey fended an opponent off. gathered speed, and shot across by the flag. City struck tougher opposition than they expected when they met the fast Improving Grafton Athletic team as the minor attraction on Carlow Park. However, they held sufficient In reserve to register another win. After nine minutes of play. Hudson gained possession on the right flank for Grafton, and In-passed to Avery, who bullocked his way over for the opening try with several opponents hanging on to bun. Grafton's defence wavered before City's repeated onslaughts, which were rewarded by Wade scooping up on the right wing, and forcing his way across wide out. Grafton 3. City 3. When the reds were again on the attack. Wetberill sent his backs away, and a pretty movement culminated in Wade scoring his second try. Shortly afterwards Allan dribbled across for Grafton, following a live yards scrum, and Hadley scored from a passing rush for City. Just before the spell. Perry scored a pretty try for the reds. Gaining possession from a fast moving passing rush in enemy territory, he fooled the opposition, dummied Longville, and swung In under the post Ghent easily goaled. The half-time score was: City 14. Grafton 6. Grafton were first to score in the second spell, a criss-cross passing bout between Courtney and Avery letting the latter across. Lucas goaled. The sun set on the yellow and golds' chances when passing between Wetherlll, Perry, Wade, and Perry completely demoralised them, and let the latter score behind the posts. Hadley piloted the ball over the bar. Just before time was called, Ferrall secured from the base of the scrum, and dived across for an unconverted try.
