HOWICK PUBLIC CEMETERY.
ENTRANCE GATES OPENED. Howick's public cemetery, though set aside eighty years ago, has never been needed until recently, and now that it has been taken over by the Howick Town Board, it has been put in order, and a handsome concrete entrance has been constructed, with suitable gates. The cemetery comprises eight acres, and is on the road to Cockle Bay. When the residents decided to make the place worthy of the district, a series of children's concerts was organised for the purpose of raising the necessary funds for building the walls and gateway. Mrs. Walter Amiss undertook the organising of the concerts, which were a great success. The new gate's were officially opened this afternoon, Mr. E. D. McLennan, M.P. for the district, performing the opening ceremony. He congratulated the Town Board and the residents upon the pride they took in their district, and said the gates were worthy of a much larger place. .
