ASKED FOR MONEY.
AND GOT "IMPRISONMENT.
"Ask, and ye shall receive," was evidently the thought that was uppermost in the mind of Olaf Strom yesterday, when lie asked an elderly man for a shilling. When his request was refused, ho persisted in following the old gentleman several chains along Quay Street, catching hold of his coat sleeve and again asking for money.
Shortly afterwards Strom was arrested and when he appeared at the Police Court this morning charged with being an idle and disorderly person who begged alms, he said that he had had a few drinks and did not remember anything about the matter.
It was stated that Strom had also accosted others and asked them for money.
Accused, who had nothing to say for himself, was sent to gaol for one month. Ho had a number of previous convictions, and only on March 14 last had been sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment for a similar offence.
