RELIEVING DISTRESS.
SALVATION ARMY'S WORK.
ASSISTANCE NEEDED.
As an evidence of the exceptional severity of the winter, the following statement by Major Gordon of the Salvation Army, will bear eloquent, though Bad testimony:—During the month of May 500 families have received assistance in orders upon the grocer and butcher, 200 bam of coal, and 190 parcels of clothing, and 50 pairs of blankets, in addition to which other bedding and furnishings have been given out." Unfortunately, the most trying months of winter are still ahead, and the Major is in need of further assistance if she is to keep up with the demands made upon her, especially as she has been compelled to purchase the blankets required.
