COMPENSATION CLAIM.
JURY'S AWARD UPSET.
"DECEASED'S OWN ACTION." (By Telegraph.— tress Association.) GREYMOtJTH, this day. Judge Adams gave hie reserved decision on a compensation claim heard at the last sitting of the Supreme Court herd in connection with the death of Peter Carmody at Brown's Creek sawmill, Inangahtia, through a fiddling saw mishap. A claim was made for £3000 compensation by the Public Trustee, on behalf of. deceased's children, and the jury awarded £1000. Mr. C. S. Thomas '(Christchurch), - defendant's counsel, raised a nonsuit point, which is now decided in defendant's favour: - The jury's award was set aside on the ground that Carmody's death was caused by his own' action in working the saw without authority.
