The latter vessel is making her first appearance at this port, having been purchased in Denmark for the inter-colonial trade. UNION COMPANY'S STEAMERS. The Wainui was dispatched tor East Coast ports last evening. The Waipiata was expected to leave Dunedin at 10 p.m. yesterday for Auckland, via Oamaru, Timuru, Lyttelton and Wellington. The Kurow left L.vtteltou last evening for Picton and Auckland. The Wingatiii is to leave Lyttelton this afternoon for Auckland, via Wellington and Napier. The Kaituna was expected to leave Dunedin at 11 a.m. to-day for Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth and Auckland. The Eaponga, en route from Westport with coal, is expected to leave New Plymouth for Auckland at 10 p.m. to-day. The Katoa is to sail at 10 p.m. to-morrow, for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Timaru. The Kaiwarra is to sail at 5 p.m. to-mor-row for Onerahi and Whangaroa to load timber for Sydney. The Kalmanawa is to leave Westport at 11 p.m. to-day for Auckland. The Coronation will leave Hokianga for Auckland to-morrow morning. The Tiroa was expected to sail for Gisborne this afternoon. The Canopus left the King's wharf this morning to load explosives ex Kim for Westport. The Richardson steamer Putiki was dispatched for the east coast last evening. The Awahou is due this evening from East Coast, and will go on the slip for overhaul. The Canopus left the King's wharf this morning and toox in explosives ex the Rira, before sailing at midday for Westport. The Richardson Line steamer Mako was forced by the weather to put back into Napier yesterday, and will not now arrive at Auckland before the week-end. • She will sail on Tuesday afternoon for East Coast bays and Napier. THE HERTFORD. Bound for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, the Federal Line steamer Hertford, is to leave Wellington on Saturday. KAITOKE TO RECOMMISSION. After being laid up off Point Resolution for some weeks, the Union Company's steamer Kaitoko is to recommission. She is announced to leave Auckland for Newcastle at noon on Friday. SUSSEX SAILED. At a late hour e last night the Sussex sailed for Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, to complete discharge of her eastern cargo. Later she will go to Australia before returning to Calcutta to load again. ORMUZ REPORTED SOLD. A cable from Bremen states that the Orient Line steamer Ormuz, formerly the German-owned liner Zeppelin, has been sold to the North German Lloyd. The vessel, which was recently withdrawn from the Australian service, will be renamed Dresden.

THE WEST NIVARIA. It Is reported by cable that the A.A.O. Line steamer West Nivaria left San Pedro on Monday for Auckland. She is due here about June 9. TAMAEOA HOME. A cablegram from Southampton reports the arrival there on Monday of the Shaw, Savlll and Albion' Co's. steamer Tamaroa Trom New Zealand. She left Wellington on April i>. MINEBIC WITH PHOSPHATE. ' Carrying a full cargo of 7500 tone of phosphate, the steamer Mineric (4713 tons) left Nauru Island for Auckland yesterday. She is due here about May 28. Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane are the local agents. YOMAH CHANGES HANDS. It is announced that the motor-ship Yomah, which visited Auckland in January last, has been purchased by the Australind Steamship Co., Ltd. (Trinder Anderson and Co.) from the Henderson Line, of Glasgow. The Yomah is to be renamed Ashburton. PASSENGERS FROM HOME. Due at Sydney from London to-morrow, the P. and O. liner Naldera is bringing the following passengers to New Zealand: —Mr. Thom, Mr. Price, Mies Rigby, Mr. and Mrs. Nixon and infant, Mr. and Mrs. Gosling, Mr. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. MIDDLESEX TO FILL UP. To complete her cargo for Home, the Federal steamer Middlesex is to leave New Plymouth to-morrow for Wellington. Her departure from Wellington for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool has been postponed until Monday. WIRRAL FROM NEW YORK. Running under the auspices of the A. and A. Line, the chartered steamer Wirral left New York on Sunday for Auckland, Napier. Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Wanganui. She is due here about June 20. The New Zealand Shipping Co. are the local agents. HUIA AND PIRI. Mr. E. C. Campbell, agent for the Nobel Explosives Co., reports that the Huia left Rockhampton yesterday with coal for Auckland. She is expected to arrive here on May 27. The Piri, which is at present at Sydney, will ail shortly for Melbourne to load explosives for New Zealand ports. WAIOTAPU TOMORROW. According to her radio report, the Union Company's steamer Waiotapu will reach Auckland from Pacific Coast porta at midday to-morrow. She will berth at the Prince's wharf. This vessel is expected to ]f>ave Auckland on Friday afternoon for Napier, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney., THE MAMARI. Bringing explosives for Auckland and general cargo for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co.'s steamer Mamari is now expected to arrive at this port from London on June 7. She passed through the Panama Canal on Monday last. NORTHUMBERLAND TO SAIL. A projected sailing from Wellington tomorrow is the Federal Line steamer Northumberland for London, via Panama. The Northumberland has been in New Zealand waters for three and a-half months, her mishap when on her way from Auckland to Napier during February having delayed her for two months.

THE NORFOLK. For Auckland, where she is to complete her cargo for New York, Boston, London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, the Federal Line steamer Norfolk is to leave Wellington to-morrow afternoon. She Is due here on Saturday morning. The Norfolk is to be dispatched from Auckland for New York on Wednesday next. PERSIAN PRINCE REPORTS. Messrs. R. Millar and Co. advise that the steamer Persian Prince has reported that she expects to arrive at Auckland from Galveston (Texas) on Monday next. She brings a cargo of sulphur. From Auckland the Persian Prince is to sail about Wednesday for Lyttelton, New Plymouth, Wanganui and Australia. THE PORT HARDY. To the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company's agency, the C. and D. Line steamer Port Hardy is expected to arrive at Auckland from London to-morrow morninjr. She will berth at the Queen's wharf. After discharge in the South the Port Hardy will load for New York, Boston and London, returning to Auckland to fill up about the end of June. MAUNGANUI'S TIME-TABLE. With passengers, mall and cargo, the union Company's steamer Maunganui is to leave Sydney for Auckland on Friday. She is due here on Tuesday, and is to sail on her return trip on Thursday, May 26 instead of Friday; May 27. On arrival at Sy*»«y on May 30 this vessel will transfer Ithe,,1 the ,, Vancouver mail service for one trip, relieving the Niagara for overhaul. TOFUA RETURNED. „ 9 vpr twenty-four hours behind time, the I nion Company's Island steamer Tofua returned to Auckland from the Western" Pac lie last evening. The vessel left Auckia.nd.qn April 23, and made the usual calls at Fijian, Tongan and Samoan ports. Round the islands the weather was exceptionally wet. Leaving Suva on her return trip on Thursday last the Tofua experienced fine weather until Saturday night, when the wind freshened from the south-east. On Sunday the wind increased to gale force, accompanied by heavy seas, and the vessel's progress was delayed. These adverse conditions continued almost to port. Although a quantity of water was shipped on deck, no damage was done. After inspection in the stream last evening, the Tofua berthed at the Queen's wharf. She is to sail at II a.m. on Saturday for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. MARGARET W. IN PORT. Discharge of her cargo of poles completed, the four-masted auxiliary schooner Marcaret W, formerly the Margot, came up from Kopu to Auckland yesterday, dropping anchor last evening. She is on her first visit to this port. Built in Denmark six years ago, the Margaret W is a steel vessel of 391 tons, and is fitted with a 220 h.p. full Diesel engine, which gives her a sea speed, when under her auxiliary power alone, of six and a-half knots. She has a carrying capacity of 600 tons dead-weight on a light draught. Cargo is carried in three hatches, each of which is served by a winch. The vessel, which can carry sufficient oil in her double bottom for 33*0 days, averaged 7.2 knots on her voyage from England to New Zealand, via Mauritius and Australia.
