FUTURE OF THE CHILD.
"LIKE AS AN ARROW."
"Like as an arrow in the hands of a giant even so are the young children"' was the text upon which . Archdeacon Mac Murray preached last evening at St. Matthew's Church. The - preacher pictured David looking at his infant child Solomon, known also as Jedidah the Beloved of God, and realising the tremendous possibilities foi weal or woe that were wrapped up in the babe, that he might go through the world as a mighty force for good or. evil—either a blessing to his fellows and to the nation, or he might go through life breaking humaja hearts and blasting human lives as with a breath of hell. He knew that human wills and affections were the mightiest forces in a human life—he knew that God having given man a free will would not torn man into a clock that would work as a machine, but that God would give the strength and guidance to that will wherever it was sought and accepted— that God alone "can order the unruly wills and affections of sinful men." Just as an arrow needed force to impel it, a target to aim at, and guidance in its course—so every human life needed God ordered wills and affections, high and noble aims and objects in life, and God's guidance to enable them to keep their hearts firmly fixed where* tnje joys are to be found.
