ARRESTED MAN'S CONDITION.

In our report of the charge of theft against Edward John McKay, a steward on the steamer Arawa, published on Saturday, it was stated tha. when accused appeared in Court his swollen face indicated "that he had got the worst of the fight with Detective McHugh, who recaptured him after a struggle in Symonds Street" following McKay's escape from the wharf police station. This, without some account of an earlier encounter between McKay and another man is liable to create a wrong impression. When McKay was first arrested his eyes, nose, and lips were swollen.
