PLUNKET WORK AT THAMES.
CAR NEEDED FOR NURSE.
EXEMPTION" FROM RATES ASKED.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
THAMES, this day,
At the monthly meeting of the Plunket Society it was reported that a sub-branch had been opened at Waitakaruru, where a room had been kindly lent for the purpose by a resident. It was decided that it was very necessary to obtain a motor car for the nurse, who has to visit the surrounding districts as far as Kerepeehi. The organisation was formed to collect funds to purchase a car. As the result of the visit to Thames of a merry-go-round, the owner of which offered 20 per cent of the takings, £100 was received.
It was resolved to wait on Mr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P., and urjre him to use his influence to have the society's land exempted from rates. The rates on the society's land in Pollen Street this year were paid by Mr. E. X. Miller, who received a hearty vote of thanks.
