N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.
BRANCH AT TE AWAMUTU
ELECTION OF OFFICERS,
Mr. P. Y egan, New Zealand Farmers' Union organiser, opened a branch with over 200 members at Te Awamutu on Saturday. Mr. R. Feisst, a member of the Provincial executive, in addressing the meeting, urged the farmers to pull together in defence of their calling. It was no use listening to the cry of more production while the farmers everywhere were working •at a loss. What was needed was a decrease in overlfcead expenses and an assured means of finance at a reasonable rate. Everything farmers used in connection with their farms was too dear. Thousands had already walked off their farms. This would continue as long as it costs more to produce the article than that article was worth. Mr. Feisst urged all farmers to stand solid behind their Control Board and establish the right to sell their produce when and where they like, and not to submit to the dictation of a few big dealers in the Old Country.
Mr. W.v;n; ard was elected president o( the branch and Messrs. Simpson and Hodson vice-presidents. Committee: Messrs. G. S. Clarke, S. H. West, H. C. Frost, A. Hanna, J. Milne and A. Crook, with power to add to their number up to thirteen.
Delegates to provincial executive, Messrs. Wynyard and Simpson; delegate to sub-provincial executive, Mr. Frost.
It was decided to affiliate with the Waikato sub-provincial executive.
