SUPREME AT SEA.

GREAT BRITISH TONNAGE. LONDON, February 26. Interesting details respecting Britain s shipping trade are contained in the paper "Fairplay's" annual summary, which has just been published. Six big groups, the Peninsular and Oriental, the Royal Mail, the Ellerman Lines, the Cunar'd, Furuess, Withy, and Holt's own between them 43.7 per cent of the tonnage registered in Britain. If tankers and small craft under 500 tons gross are excluded, their fleets represent more than half of the total tonnage available for the overseas trade. This tonnage is greater than that of the total fleet owned by any country in the world except the United States. It consists of the finest and most up-to-date vessels which now navigate the seven seas.
