BREACH OF AWARD.
EMPLOYEE'S' LIABILITY.
A case, came before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., this morning at: the Magistrate's Court, in which _ the Inspector of Awards, Mr. J.- Hollows, sought, to recover a penalty of £5 from C. J. P. Codlen (Mr. J- J- Sullivan) for an alleged breach of an award, m. the electrical trade, by .accepting £3 10/ per week, instead of demanding £4 10/6, the wage prescribed' by the award. - Mr. Sullivan said the defendant acted in innocence. Upon coming out o 115 apprenticeship lie was told be could not claim the higher wage until he got ins license as a. journeyman wireman, for which he at'once applied. Defendant went to the . Department- himself and laid the" complaint against his employer for not paying the proper wage. Mr. Cutten said a very little inquiry on the part of defendant would, have prevented his working for a less wage than was prescribed/by 'the award, penalty "'of 20/, and costs 4/, nas imposed. • •'• • '
