DEFENCE OF NANKING.
FENGTIEN TROOPS EMPLOYED. i (Received 11.30 a.m.) i SHANGHAI, February 23. j Chang Tsung-chang, an ally of Sun Chuan-fang. entered Nanking to-day and has assumed control of the city by ar- . rangement with Snn Chuan-fang. Arrangements are also being made for Fengtien troops taking over and garrisoning the railway southward of Nan- j king, thus enabling the Northern Army J (approximating 30,000 men) which is j at present entering Nanking, to be rap- j idlv thrown into the defence of Shanghai.
There are indications that General Sun Chuan-fang is now practically eliminated as a factor in the military situa'cn.
