MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS
New Waiotahi.—The mine manager reports that the drive hidward on the Waio-tahi-Cambria reef has been advanced loft for the week. The face is now in what appears to be solid country of a favourable nature. Driving to pick up the reef is tinder wav. The drive hillward on the footwall leader from the bottom of the winze has been advanced sft. The leader is up to 6in in width, and dabs of strong gold have been seen in the quartz broken down during the week, all of which is being saved for crushing.
Kuranui.—The mine manager reports that cleaning out and re-timbering of the old battery level has been done for a total of 224 ft." At this point a crosscut was found to have been driven north about 50ft from the main level, and should have cut Barry's reef. The crosscut is three-quarters full of mullock, and it is hard to see if the reef was cut. Cleaning out this crosscut will take a few days, and then it will be possible to locate the reef, and starting driving east to cut under the winze, a distance of about 60ft.
Moanataiari. —The manager reports that during the week the following work has been in progress : Good progress has been made in the" winze and rise "ami last nigh: a connection was made. It will take a couple of shifts to timber and break the ground to get everything secure. a< we have only got a small hole through. There is a tine current of air coning thr uigh. A start was made to-day to timber the cast crosscut and get for brc::k::ig ore a- soon as possible. Maori'.and Consolidated. — The mine manager reports that No. 4 level has been advanced loft. The ground is still heavv and troublesome, and on Thursday a fail ocenrred, which accounts for tie slow progress.
